RedGardŽ is good stuff!

Wood products on your Georgia home have a tendency to rot. Rot; isn’t that a terrible word? Yuck! Rot is, or rather, has been a way of life here on this planet. It is a natural process of a tree growing, serving its purpose and then ending up on the ground and decaying to become part of the landscape.

So, we make stuff out of wood such as doors & door frames and windows and window frames and trim and other things to numerous to iterate here. We put a coat of paint over it and leave it outside a very long time and never think about it again—until—we sell our home. Then the buyer of our home sends over a pesky inspector and that person knows exactly where to look to find every bit of rot on your beautiful home.

When selling your home all those rotten pieces of wood (usually) must be replaced before your home will close. So, you have to fix them before moving on with your life and depending how much work needs to be done it can cost thousands of dollars.

Chances are good, no matter what part of our great nation you live in, that you have some rot on your home right now that is visible from the outside. Check it out and look at the bottom third (go from the bottom to about one foot up) of your door jambs and windows, anywhere where water can splash on the wood. If it looks like it has some dark streaks or lines in it (mold) or it is soft to the touch and a little moist, you’ve probably got some rot.

I’ve been getting my personal home ready to sell. My husband told me we had some rot on our home and that it needed repairing. We called our favorite builder, home improvement and repair guy, Ronnie Lewallen, and he got right on it. We have known him for years and really trust him.

Ronnie replaced everything and asked me if I wanted to “Red Guard” the wood. I asked him, “What’s Red Guard?” He told me that it is an elastomeric used for waterproofing the wood. “Elastomeric” sounded impressive but he noticed the funny look on my face and said, “We paint this stuff on. It goes on pink and turns red when it is dry. We paint it with your house color with your regular paint and it will never rot again.” Now, that got my attention! Probably got your attention too, didn’t it?

Ronnie’s dad, Vince, chimed in about then. He told us that he has an old aluminum Jon boat that leaked like a sieve. They had tried many things including silicon caulk to stop the leaks and nothing worked. Ronnie suggested he try RedGard®; he did and it hasn’t leaked since. Now, that’s a pretty good testimony.

Give Ronnie a call if you need him and read more about him at www.cathymeder.com/Team.php.
