My 55th Birthday

Posted by Cathy Meder on Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 at 5:08pm.

I recently had a birthday and had such a wonderful time that I thought I would blog about it and since you all are dying to know what kind of cake I had, I thought I would share this with you.

We went to the Marietta Diner for our dessert which is supposed to be a famous place of old, in Marietta. It is located near Sam’s and the Big Chicken on 41. We didn't eat it there, since we had just finished a delicious dinner of Veal Gorgonzola at Vincent’s on Barrett Parkway, (there’s a plug for you Paul!) so we just got the cake to go and went home to eat it.

It was a little after nine when we got home so I missed Skype-ing (that was such a bummer) with my grandbabies. But that’s another story.

At any rate, we walked into this big building with about a million people inside; there were people everywhere. The building is shiny with chrome-like metal on the outside and it looks like a classic Fifty’s joint. When you walk in it, it has a huge glass case showing off their enormous layered cakes of every imaginable flavor and frosting…no joke, there must have been about 30-50 (just guessing) different kinds of desserts.

I was overwhelmed when they started naming them all for us. So there was this one called Crazy Cake—a layer of strawberry shortcake, a layer of chocolate with fudge frosting (fudge is my favorite) a layer of carrot with cream cheese, a layer of red velvet with cream cheese and all of this iced in probably a butter frosting with sprinkles all over it.

Now, I'm not crazy about the sprinkles but I got to try 4 cakes in one with the Crazy Cake; by the way, the chocolate was the best! It was a fun cake (that single piece was seven dollars and something, but bigger than the ones we would get at the Alpine bakery which we pass sometimes going up to Lake Lanier—you definitely want to experience that as well) and it was a fun day. I spent most of it with my Sweetie of 37 years. Well, I am moving on the road of life and I am looking forward to all that comes with it. Just need to stay off the scales for a few days. ♥

Oh my. I can picture that enormous display of layered cakes. Crazy cake sounds incredible.
From one grandmother to another, I say it was the perfect way to celebrate your 55th. Do they have gift cards? :)
