An Underwater Homeowner's Attitude

(What does underwater mean, anyway?)

Today I had an interesting conversation with someone whose house is underwater. Underwater means that he owes more on the house than it is worth. He was transferred, so, in order not to lose his job, he left his beautiful Marietta GA home so he could continue to survive. So, what does “survive” mean to him?

To him it means paying his electric, gas, food, medical, insurance, credit cards and mortgage payments, etc. That doesn’t mean paying two mortgage payments as he can barely pay what he has. So the choice is what to do—rent it to people whose credit is bad and may, or may not, pay and who will probably destroy the house. Or, try and “Short Sell” it for half the worth and get the bank to write it off; or, just walk…
